Exploring Web 2.0 in the built environment

If we want some headlines, what about
Charles Arthur (Guardian) - interested in Web 2.0 and "Free Our Data", regular Tweeter
Tom Watson MP - government minister supportive of "Free Our Data"
Bill Thompson (BBC Technology columnist) - see The Importance of Being There

Other possible Web 2.0 speakers:

Leisa Reichelt, on how ambient intimacy (tools such as Twitter) allows you to maintain large numbers of light-touch relationships (http://www.disambiguity.com/ambient-intimacy/)
Tom Steinberg, MySociety.org and FixMyStreet.com
Tom Chance, OpenStreetMap.org
Lloyd Davis, podcaster and videoblogger
Roo Reynolds, was Metaverse Evangelist for IBM, just about to start now with the BBC
Justin Bovington, riversrunred.com, Second Live expert
Cory Doctorow, author and activist, on the importance of opening up your IP (Cory is a fabulous speaker and always worth trying to figure a topic to invite him to talk on!)
Jo Twist, great communities and social media expert, currently at the BBC but did work at IPPR for a while.
Meg Pickard, Head of Community and User Experience at the Guardian
Suw Charman-Anderson, I hope it's not frowned upon to suggest oneself, but I work as a social media/web 2.0 consultant so would be happy to talk about using wikis, blogs, etc. for collaboration and communication

I personally know all of the above, as well as Charles and Bill (I'm writing an article for Charles at the moment on the psychology of email) so happy to help out with contacting them if that would be helpful. I'll also have a bit of a think about other open data speakers to invite.

Is there any other way I can help?

Hi Paul / Suw and all -
I'd like to make sure we bring some of the results of the Build London Live virtual design charette we did in June to bear on the unconference. I know Paul was involved as an observer - for others this was an international event held over 48 hours using BIM and we-based tech as enablers - to deliver to a hypothetical design brief for a Greenwich Peninsula site. There was a lot of very high-quality ouput and involvement from countries all over the world - this was very much tied into the open standards discussion via Building Smart and the Industry Foundation Classes standards.
If we could look at making some of the outputs of that process available via web services or feeds into the event it could make for an exciting mashup.

Nathan - welcome - and yes the Build London Live would be a great topic. I see there are other BIMStorms happening in the near future across the world (USA and S Africa) - can we link into those?

Suw, excellent ideas and suggestions. OK we make it a two day event (only joking)
One thread I am keen to explore is the Guardian, free my data, Charles Arthur one, do you have any contact there? Charles is a friend / follower on twitter too.

The potential speaker ideas are shaping up really nicely already. I would add
iPM (the Radio 4 internet PM prog with Eddie Mair)
I would like to see some second life topic - maybe Mal Burns who based in London has a great handle on sl education, plus
College of North London who use second life to educate HVAC students see http://twurl.nl/mojufh

Suw,
I've heard great things about you so I would love to hear you speak.
I also saw Euan Semple speak on-line at a conference I went to here in Sydney on Enterprise 2.0 in February, and he was really interesting.
Wow, if we could get Cory Doctorow that would be fantastic - but yes we will need to find suitable Built Environment topics...
It all sounds like it's coming along on the speaker front then.

Yes, I know Charles. Just finished up an article for him, as it happens, so I'd be happy to have a chat with him about this. Will drop him an email.

Chris Vallance, who was the best man at my wedding, works on iPM, so I can have a chat to him too.

Yeah, Euan's great! Also a very good friend... Also happy to intro him to this project.

Just thinking that before I start talking to people, might it be a good idea to draw up some subject areas of what sort of thing we'd like them to talk on? How many speakers can we cram in? And how many slots are we going to leave open for more unconference-style talks? Are we doing to do any open space sessions? Or other formats than talk/Q&A?

Very excited to be involved in this, and very much looking forward to the event!

Suw, we held a skype conference call last night to discuss progress, we will include you in the next when it is fixed, as the next item to clarify is the themes, streams and agenda slots.

At the moment it is broadly around three themes - sustainability, using web 2 stuff, and IT management of web2 stuff. In addition to 'people' slots, each of these themes could be kicked of by internet / media names? But all this is open to discussion at the mo

And yes having open stations or poster sessions is possible.

There is also the morning workshops which we see as being more workshoppy - the basics, introductions to etc, as the Americans call 101 sessions

and of course a pecha kucha open mic session in the evening - for fun

So plenty of opportunities for ppl to present or talk within a wide range of formats

I will let you know when the next skype conference call is - we tend to chat at 10pm UK time which is tea time in the states and breakfast in Sydney.

Thanks for your ideas

Thanks Suw, our big push at the moment is promotion of the event and web presence, so any help in that direction would be wonderful
